Defer September shoot to October 19

The planned shoot for September 14 is a few days away and there has been minimal response. Options are to hold a slimmed down shoot or defer to the October 19 shoot. Choice apparent is to defer.

As much as I would like to honor the commitment of holding the shoot this Sunday, it simply does not look like a winning situation at present. We have an opportunity with this project that is far different than *just a photoshoot*. We have a stake in documenting the evolution of Detroit's fashion community and the place we live. There have been vast changes in the environment around several shoot locations from prior photoshoots of the project.

313FAD announces Soldier Style Statement

SoldierStyleStatement

313FAD has seen a tremendous opportunity in creating The American Soldier Rock Fash Tribute Concert. We have a number of designers whom have been selecting and arranging their talent and designs in the show. The producers have created a 15 minute segment titled "Soldier Style Statement", which will allow runway talent to either self-style a military inspired outfit or work with a stylist that is not on the schedule of the show.

You must register on the website to participate in this segment of the show - http://www.313fad.com/user/register is the link to register. Once you have registered send an email to infoatsoldierrockfashbash [dot] com with a title of SOLDIER STYLE STATEMENT ENTRY. Include your contact information, a photo of yourself and if possible a photo of the outfit you are looking to bring to the show.

If you have questions you can call Stephen at 248-632-6156.

Dequindre Cut nears public opening

Development of the Dequindre Cut by the Rails to Trails Greenways Conservancy is nearing completion. According to ListD.com the parkway is slated to be opened to the public in September 2008.

Wednesday I placed a call to the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and sent an email inquiring about their plans. I also spelled out the desire of the project to participate in the opening celebration by staging a fashion show that shows photos from the project from 2007 when the Dequindre Cut was urban prairie.

I would like to find someone in the project that is interested in keeping pace with this conversation and interested in production of the fashion show. Please call me if you would like to discuss in more depth and have the time to research whom to speak with that is involved in the opening to have such an event.

Updates to Myspace, Facebook, ... ASAP

Myspace profile

I need to go login on the Myspace profile and get it up to date and make sure people get looking over here on the website for information on the project. Same holds true on Facebook and other sites. I'll be updating the link list of sites the project has a presence on along the way.

Please pick up bulletin posts and repost them so your friends hear about your involvement and support for the project. As we move into fashion shows this fall and winter, spreading the news to the public will be essential for the health of all in the project in making money through the project. Yes - I said YOU make money by being IN the project, as an active participant and promoter.

The Myspace presence is going to have fewer DIRECT updates. When visiting that profile the RSS Reader will show the most recent posts here.

August photoshoot in flux

AID button 125

Last night I was speaking with Reuben of the Better Detroit Youth Movement about the upcoming August shoot and show. The proposal is being made to move the shoot to August 23 and hold it around Artists Village with a show at the Redford Theater. The advantage with the move is bringing synergy of direction with Blightbusters, youth organizations, and achieving a greater awareness for the project. The concern is that with Dream Cruise planning we haven't created a large enough presence in advance to draw traffic. So it seems another FFL ('Fast Fashion Lifestyle') themed event is postponed, which in turn creates ripples into 313FAD.

July 20 canceled - Focus on August 16

A week has passed since the last shoot. I've been busy creating the DivaTv website, and with the Better Detroit Youth Movement. August 16 is looking as a collaborative project between many entities. What I need now are coordinators and promoters that know how to pull off a big event.

Looking at everything going on at present and wondering where are the photo phone calls. Seems I'm being left to create websites in the middle of summer instead of photos.

Commitment

The past weekend was a busy time around the project... at least so it was planned. However the plans failed over and over at succeeding. In the wake of this we have to examine the causes and effects, how to improve the process, and move forward efficiently.

Project Partners with Charities

Blightbusters 20th Anniversary Celebration

Abandoned In Detroit project and 313FAD is pulling talent together for a fashion show at Artist Village to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Blightbusters.org.

Partnerships

Our participation in the celebration is creating a bridge with a long-standing charity. Watch for additional partnerships with organizations involved in the renaissance of Detroit, uplifting the environment and the people here. The forums are open and topics can be created for new discussions. We had the beginnings of a relationship with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, and the contact I had there has since left. I would like to form a new link into the organization, perhaps through a different angle.

I could use the assistance of anyone that enjoys researching where to find money through grants and charities. I have leads to chase but little time to chase them.
